I am not sure where I stand politically; is PneuProject liberal or conservative?

PneuProject is neither... or both.

"As an essential ethos, PneuProject and the Christian Church upholds the right and necessity of each individual to freely grapple with faith and life issues."

We really mean that.  We exist to share Jesus.  His life & teachings are paradigm-shifting, inclusive, and challenging.  But here is the secret: we don't always agree on where faith in Jesus leads us politically!  It isn't that we lack conviction of what Jesus lives and teaches - not at all.  Some of us simply feel that faith in Jesus leads us to vote Republican, and some of us vote Democrat.

Here is where we are hardliners:  Jesus, Jesus, and you guessed it, Jesus.
1. Jesus welcomed everybody.  He got really mad at religious insiders who felt they could determine who was in, and who was out with God.
2. Jesus commanded us to love each other.  He didn't command us to like everything everybody did, nor did he command us to love the people who we already like.   He commanded us to love one another as He has loved us, through relationship, service, and sacrifice.
3. Jesus included everybody.  He revealed God to men & women, 'sinners' and religious leaders alike... and so should we.

So if you are looking for a church that offers simple answers of liberal or conservative political purity, we would love to help you find that church - but we are simply not it.

Who leads the church?

Leaders Lead

At PneuProject, those who God calls to lead, lead.  It really is that simple.  You will see women and men, young and old, those new to the church and lifetime Christians, leading with the gifts God has given them.

In a world where gender, credentials, and tenure typically define the hierarchy of leadership, we strive to follow the Jesus model of leadership.  Leadership = service as God created you and I to serve.  We never want to stand in the way of who God creates and calls to do God’s work.  The rigid structures of the past that sought to preserve the past are passing away.  God is reawakening the church to His original intent, that we are not conformed to this world but transformed to His renewing Spirit.

Does PneuProject use the Bible?

Yes!  PneuProject believes the Bible serves as a compiled record of God's interaction with people, eye-witness accounts to Jesus' divinity, good life, and teaching, and gives testimony to the sort of interaction believers can expect to have with God's Spirit into present day.
PneuProject often approaches the Bible academically, through research and study into ancient languages and culture, in order to better understand the original meaning and intent of the scripture.

I was baptized as a child in a different Christian tradition.  Does that count?

The Christian Church does practice the Biblical tradition of baptism of individuals who choose faith for themselves.  However, if you are satisfied with your baptism situation, PneuProject honors the baptism of your previous faith tradition.  Many newcomers to the Christian Churches do prefer to celebrate their choice of pursuing faith with a baptism, which is also honored by PneuProject.

What is communion?

Communion is the practice of sharing bread and wine/ juice to remember Jesus.  Jesus taught and lived to love and then to sacrifice.  He used bread and wine as the example to illustrate that his body as he gave it to be broken and his blood that he gave to be shed were as necessary to us spiritually as food and drink are to us as nourishment.
Communion is a widely-practiced Christian tradition that was and still is restricted to a members-only rite in some Christian expressions.  However, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) originally differentiated themselves from other faith practices by recognizing that everyone is welcome to participate in remembering Jesus' love and sacrifice.  Everyone is entitled to share in the ultimately giving and sacrificial nature of God.
